Art advisory:sourcing, sale and management of artworks and collections

A single point of contact to find the right work, sell in the right place and protect your collection over time. Confidential mandate, independent experts, from Paris to Prague.

What is art advisory?

Art advisory means supporting a collector, a family or a family office at every stage in the life of a collection: searching for and acquiring a work, selling it or disposing of a group of works, then inventorying, insuring, transporting, conserving and passing it on. AC PRIVATE - A List concierge orchestrates these missions under a confidential mandate. We coordinate galleries, auction houses, independent experts, fine art carriers and specialist brokers; authentication and valuation always rest with independent professionals.

Sourcing and acquisition

Finding the work that fits your collection, including works that are never shown publicly.

  • Search under confidential mandate: artist, period, medium, dimensions and a budget defined with you.
  • Galleries, fairs, auction houses and private treaty sales, in Paris and across Europe.
  • Pre-purchase checks: provenance, condition, documentation and an independent expert opinion.
  • Absentee and proxy bidding, with your name kept confidential.

Sale and resale

Selling a work or a collection at the right time, through the right channel, without needless exposure.

  • Valuation by independent experts or auction houses, compared with one another.
  • Choice of channel: public auction, private sale through a gallery or a confidential private treaty.
  • File preparation: provenance, condition report, photography and export documents where needed.
  • End-to-end logistics: packing, approved transport and nail-to-nail insurance.

Discretion, compliance, independence

The art market is subject to anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (AML/CFT) obligations: identifying the parties and checking the source of funds are part of every mission. We give no investment advice, set no valuation ourselves and sell no work on our own account. Your identity is only disclosed with your consent.

Art advisory: frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an art advisor and a gallery?

A gallery sells works by its artists or from its stock. Art advisory works for the collector: it compares several sources, galleries, auction houses and private sales, with no stock of its own to sell. AC PRIVATE - A List concierge sells no work on its own account.

How can an artwork be sold confidentially?

Through a private treaty sale or an auction house's private sales department: the work is shown to a small circle of buyers, with no public catalogue. Valuation is entrusted to an independent expert and the seller's name stays confidential.

Which documents should be checked before buying a work?

Provenance (ownership history), certificates of authenticity or inclusion in the catalogue raisonné where one exists, a condition report, previous invoices and, for a work coming from abroad, import or export documents. Checking stolen art registers is part of the process.

Why inventory a private collection?

A documented inventory is used to insure works correctly, prove ownership after damage or theft, organise moves between residences and prepare succession. It should be updated after every acquisition, sale or loan.

Do you work with family offices?

Yes. We work alongside the family's advisers (wealth managers, notaries, lawyers) on the operational side: sourcing, sales, inventory, logistics and insurance. Wealth and tax decisions remain with those advisers.

What are your fees?

No public rates: every mandate is bespoke and quoted confidentially, approved before any step is taken.
