Tracking down a rare watch is an art. AC Private opens its horological address book — a confidential network, re-editions and vintage pieces such as the legendary TAG Heuer Carrera 'Skipper' — and announces a new partnership with the fabled Hotel Sacher, in Vienna and Salzburg.
Some watches are not bought — they are found. A confidential re-edition, a vintage piece off the radar, a never-worn example kept in a vault: the market for rare watches plays out far from the display windows. AC Private opens its horological address book, with a common thread born of a victory at sea — the TAG Heuer Carrera 'Skipper'. And it announces a new partnership that extends the experience into some of Central Europe's finest suites — those of the legendary Hotel Sacher, in Vienna and Salzburg.
AC Private, hunter of rare watches
For the discerning enthusiast, the challenge is no longer the budget: it is access. The most desirable pieces — limited series sold out on announcement day, mint vintage references, never-worn "new old stock" examples — appear in no window. They circulate within a discreet network of houses, collectors and trusted dealers. That is precisely where AC Private comes in: we turn a search into a result, drawing on a horological address book built over the years.
From defining the brief — reference, year, condition, provenance — to hand delivery, our private concierge orchestrates every step: identifying the piece, negotiating, authentication by independent experts, secure logistics and absolute discretion.
The TAG Heuer Carrera 'Skipper', an icon born of a victory

Few chronographs tell as clear a story as the Carrera Skipper. In 1967, the American yacht Intrepid won the America's Cup, the most prestigious of regattas. To celebrate the feat, Heuer created in 1968 a chronograph designed for sailors: the Skipper. Its mission? To help the racer manage the crucial countdown before the starting gun.
Rare and quickly gone from the catalogues — production stopped in the early 1980s — the Skipper long remained a connoisseurs' secret, hunted by collectors worldwide. Until TAG Heuer brought it back: a steel re-edition in 2023, followed by a precious rose gold version in 2024, both faithful to the spirit of the original.

A dial that tells the regatta
The Skipper's signature lies in its tricolour countdown counter at 3 o'clock: three five-minute segments — light blue, sea green and orange — echo the colours of the sea and of regatta flags, letting the wearer read at a glance the fifteen minutes before the start. Around it, a deep blue dial, a 39 mm "glassbox" case with vintage proportions, and a modern automatic chronograph movement with a comfortable power reserve. The object is at once a tool, a historical tribute and a collector's piece in its own right.

From vintage piece to re-edition: a connoisseurs' market

An entire world of searching orbits the Skipper. Some want the 1960s-70s original, with its patina and history; others target the contemporary re-edition, available in a trickle. In both cases, the same rule applies: the best pieces are not displayed, they are negotiated. Documented provenance, original box and papers, dial condition and component consistency make all the difference — and all the value.
